Pursuing Excellence in Complete Dentures

Instructors:  Dr. Scott Dyer, Prosthodontist, part-time private practice, Assistant Professor, Department of Restorative Dentistry, Division of Biomaterials and Biomechanics, Division of Prosthodontics, OHSU  Jeff Rouse, Prosthodontist, full-time private practice, Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Prosthodontics, University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio

The number of edentulous patients will grow to over 30 million in the next 15 years. Two trends have altered the practice of complete dentures - people are loosing their teeth later in life while 50% of those who are edentulous have been so at least 20 years. Consequently, new denture wearers are more esthetically demanding than past generations and replacement dentures will be fabricated on highly resorbed, poor quality residual ridges. While the difficulty of complete denture cases is increasing, the opportunities available today to obtain continuing education are decreasing. The majority of these courses are one-day lecture style formats. While lecture types of courses offer enthusiasm or an update for removable prosthodontics, little actual knowledge transfers to the operatory. CORE Dentistry has developed a comprehensive four-session continuum focused on enabling a practitioner to plan and perform complete denture prosthodontics at its highest level.

Denture Continuum topics include:

-         Comprehensive Denture Patient Examination

-         Edentulous Anatomy

-         Healing Abused Tissues

-         Preliminary and Final Impressions

-         Determining Occlusal Vertical Dimension

-         Centric Relation Registration

-         Esthetic Tooth Arrangement

-         Complete Denture Occlusal Considerations

-         Accelerated, Traditional and Branching Denture Techniques

-         Laboratory Communication

-         Materials and Processing Options

-         Custom Gingival Characterization

-         Insertion, Troubleshooting, and Remounting

-         Reline, Rebase, or Remake Protocols

-         Duplicate Dentures, Radiographic and Surgical Stents

-         Implant-Assisted Overdentures, Implant-Supported Overdentures and Fixed Detachable Hybrid Dentures
