Course Objectives:

Course Overview: 2016 IV Sedation Participants Safely and confidently treat your anxious adult patients by performing moderate sedation. This certifying course includes lectures and clinical training by the renowned Drs. Kenneth Reed, Amanda Okundaye, Andrea Fonner and Stanley Malamed. After completing this comprehensive course, you’ll feel confident administering parenteral moderate sedation to your patients. Didactic discussion includes pharmacology, patient evaluations, airway management, medical emergencies and venipuncture techniques. At the final session participants will practice managing medical emergencies on a high fidelity human simulator, which will provide them with invaluable hands on experience. During the clinical portion of the course, participants will start IVs and administer sedative agents while performing clinical dentistry. Unlike other programs, we prepare participants for real-life practice by having them simultaneously perform both the sedation and dentistry on a minimum of twenty patients. We allow participants to choose procedures with which they are most comfortable and we supply the appropriate, pre-screened patients for this course. This course is valuable for dentists who would like to obtain a moderate sedation permit and also those who need additional training to meet current standards. It meets or exceeds ADA standards for parenteral moderate sedation, which is the standard for most states; however, you are encouraged to look VERY closely at your State’s or Country’s laws for permit issuance. If you have questions please do not hesitate to contact us prior to registration. Objectives: See a minimum of 20 patients and start IVs on each case Titrate drug to effect for each patient Perform dental procedures on your sedated patients Prerequisites (must be in place in order to participate in course) A valid dental license Temporary, non-resident permit for international and out-of-state participants (OAGD will assist with the process). A current permit to prescribe and administer controlled substances issued by the DEA. A current CPR Level C card (Basic Life Support). The BLS card must be health care provider level. A current Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification Proof of appropriate professional malpractice insurance that specifically covers you while treating patients in Oregon (check with your carrier). The ability to bring or hire two (2) dental assistants to assist you for the entirety of the clinic sessions ** Comprehensive Training in Parenteral Moderate Sedation can be taken on a day-by-day basis for continuing education purposes. Past course graduates receive a 50% discount on the daily tuition rate. *** Online registration is not available for this event. Please contact us 503-228-6266 or email us at Hillary@oragd.org for registration information.
