NEW THIS YEAR!

Predictable Restorative Dentistry

Darin Dichter DMD & Kevin Kwiecien DMD

Both mentors maintain private practices in the Portland area and serve as part-time faculty at OHSU School of Dentistry

This hands-on participation study group will consist of four two-day sessions.  It will give each participant the systems, tools and knowledge to perform an efficient comprehensive exam, construct and adjust an occlusal bite splint, consistently prepare quality preparations and fabricate exquisite provisional restorations.

The course is perfect for the recent graduate or the dentist who has been in practice for 10 years and is ready to take his or her practice to the next level.

The first weekend will focus on the new patient exam, including pertinent questions to assess the patient’s values, concerns and expectations.  Each participant will feel comfortable assessing the TMJ, muscles of mastication and stabilizing muscles and begin to notice the correlation between the signs and symptoms found and what we see in the mouth.  Proper impression taking technique, centric relation records, mounting on articulators, and evaluation will be emphasized.

The second weekend will focus on evaluating the mounted casts, the difference between centric relation and maximum intercuspation, and the fabricating of a bite splint for each participant.  Rationale and expectations for a bite splint will be discussed.  Each participant will have an adjusted bite splint to take home and will have adjusted one for someone else.

The third weekend will focus on techniques for predictable restorations.  Preparation design, soft tissue management, ideal impressions, and impeccable provisional restorations will be discussed.    Each participant will have an opportunity to prepare ivorene teeth and make provisional crowns, with an emphasis on comfort, function and appearance.

The final weekend will focus on implementing new ideas and techniques into everyday practice. Comprehensive case planning, case presentation (with photography) and the role of specialists will be addressed.
