Course Overview:

This study club is for both new grads and those who are ready for new ideas at any stage of their career. Wherever you are in your profession, this study club is sure to make you a better, more confident practitioner. Come learn pearls, new ways of doing things or techniques they just didn’t teach you in dental school. The practical, hands-on sessions will teach you tricks of the trade that will quickly build your efficiency, inspire innovation and reboot your confidence. Plus, this study club will help you expand your network of support and comradery with your dental colleagues. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to gain practical experience and friendships that will enrich your career and beyond.

Sessions topics:
I. Crown and Bridge: Quick and easy temporaries and isolation techniques for great impressions, materials and burrs to make your life easier, answer-is an implant always better than a bridge?
II. Implant restoration: Cement or screw retained, cement to use if cement retained, hybrid cement/screw retained crowns, custom verses prefabricated abutments
III. Surgery: Atraumatic extractions and socket preservation grafting, pain relief, suturing.
IV. Occlusion and TMD: Who needs an occlusal appliance and how to fabricate and adjust.
V. Treatment planning and dental ethics: How to do a thorough and ethical treatment plan, how to deal with problems, where can I turn for help.

Course Objectives:

  • Learn tricks and tips that will make dentistry easier and more fun

  • Generate ideas, while learning from each other

  • Participate in hands-on sessions designed to enhance learning in each topic area

  • Develop an appreciation for hands-on study clubs and understand why there is no better way to learn

  • About the Clinician:

Dr. Hansen graduated from OHSU in 1987, served as a Navy dentist from 1987-1990 after which he opened a private practice office in Gresham, Oregon where he practiced for over 28 years. He served as part time faculty at OHSU in Dental Anatomy and Operatives Clinic from 1990-1996 and has over 2800 hours of dental CE (over 1600 hours of participation courses) in all disciplines of dentistry. Dr. Hansen is a graduate of ORAGD/AAID Maxi course on implants 2008-2009 and earned his AGD Mastership Award in 2011. He is a member of National AGD Dental Education Council 2011-2015 and past board members of ODA and ORAGD. In 2017 he was nominated by his peers to be the ORAGD Doctor of the Year.  Currently, Dr. Hansen owns a practice with his son Kyle in Milwaukie, Oregon and serves as the Oregon AGD Foundation Board President.
