Course Overview:

Course Description: There is no more exciting time to revisit endodontics than today. Nickel titanium rotary and reciprocating instrumentation has made treatment techniques predictable and reliable. The use of ultrasonic preparation and cleaning may lead to the ability to remove diseased tissue in isthmuses and multiple portals of exit. Obturation techniques from lateral to warm vertical result in a “3-D” seal. Electronic apex locators make length determination more science than art. CBCT has enhanced diagnosis and treatment. Regeneration techniques allow a view into the future. The course content will also include topics such as: diagnostic assessment tools, recommendations for antibiotic use in endodontics, use of opioids for acute pain relief, glide path instrumentation, case management to include infections, flare-ups and post-op pain, supplemental anesthesia with intraosseous techniques, retreatment, atypical surgery and implants as treatment options when initial root canal therapy fails and “endocrowns.” Day 1 of this course reviews current endodontic concepts, re-introduces cleaning, shaping and obturation techniques while introducing new biomaterials, and instruments. Day II: Participation Session: The “hands-on” session will provide opportunities to hone diagnostic skills, view CBCT scans, and execute cleaning and shaping with a variety of nickel titanium instruments. Challenging interactive endodontic cases will be used in small groups to encourage the participant to diagnose, select appropriate treatment modalities, and evaluate success and failure. Participants will clean & shape provided technique teeth utilizing a variety of rotary and reciprocating instrumentation.

Course Objectives:

• Reiterate the basic principles of the role of bacteria in pulpal and periapical disease • Diagnose and choose appropriate treatment modalities that are evidence-based • Identify similarities and differences in the currently available NiTi system from leading vendors • Delineate principles for use of CBCT in endodontic diagnosis and treatment • Recognize access preparations requirements & cleaning, shaping regimens in age of minimally invasive endodontics This sentence needs work. It doesn’t read smoothly to me. • Identify anesthetic techniques for profound anesthesia Is this right? • Describe pain management with OTC meds and rescue opioids.
