OAGD Partners with OAGDF to Develop Learning Center
Building a bridge to the future – changing the game for dental education in Oregon.
The Oregon Academy of General Dentistry is moving forward with plans to partner with the newly established OAGD Foundation (OAGDF) to develop an education center in Portland. Due to the many logistical challenges with space at the OHSU School of Dentistry, it has been difficult to efficiently provide the level and amount of continuing dental education (CDE) for which we are known. Since 2015, OAGD has had to move around the region to find venue’s that support our business model.
With input from leaders in the Oregon dental community, OAGD board and the newly established OAGD Foundation board, we are moving forward with the plans for a new education center. Our goal is to partner with OAGDF to raise funds for the Center. We see a future with expanded humanitarian programs while also ensuring that OAGD shall be able to maintain CDE excellence needed by Oregon’s dentists so that they may serve all Oregonians statewide.
The OAGDF Education Center will be home for humanitarian programs that will also provide increased opportunities for Oregon’s dentist to learn via hands-on dentistry. This will help OAGD reach their goals by ensuring that there is a home for lifelong dental learners with modern learning technologies including distance learning capacity.
The Center will be large enough and include a variety of meeting and hands-on course spaces to enable OAGD to provide more control over costs and business operations. OAGD will lease space from OAGDF at fair market value. After extensive analysis, OAGD is confident that expenses for leasing from OAGDF will be near to current OAGD venue expenditures but with huge advantages.
Space Design will include:
Classroom for 100, dividable (and rentable for all group sizes)
Clinic with 12-15 chairs, surgical operatory
Dental Sim Lab for 16
Live Webcasting Capacity for Interactive Long-distance Courses
Full Dental Imaging Capacity
Center Allows for OAGDF Programs Community Programs:
Home for a bank of dental equipment to be loaned to those going on dental humanitarian projects.
Provide facilities and support for children’s dental health volunteer and children’s volunteer days
focusing on underserved populations.
Provide facilities and support for at-risk women’s dental health days.
Home for a dental assisting training program

In addition, A-Dec is donating all 12 chairs and promises a state-of-the-art clinic for the clinic!
